Willows Health has achieved a CQC rating of ‘outstanding’ for being responsive to patient needs

Leicester Mercury recently posted the following article about Willows service.

Since looking after our personal health and wellbeing is now more vital than ever, communities in the UK are having to rely strongly on their local NHS GP surgeries to provide their invaluable help and support. Willows Health in Leicestershire understands the various needs of its patients and prides itself in offering a pioneering service that they can trust.

The organisation’s 10 surgeries are located mainly in the city of Leicester and the Loughborough area, providing innovative care to over 45,000 patients – some of who have been registered with them for decades. New patients are welcome too and can sign-up online, in as little as five minutes.

Appointments are available face-to-face, over the telephone or online. And patients can also benefit from attending their consultation at modern premises with leading healthcare technology.

With CQC ratings of ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ across all of its sites, many patients have been impressed with the services they can receive. Due to the group’s partnerships with specialist clinics in the area, patients can also benefit from receiving advanced services such as dermatology, musculoskeletal, ENT and gynaecology services, instead of experiencing long waits at hospitals or other clinics.

Pioneering services and treatment

Willows Health is committed to providing the best care it can within the financial resources made available by the NHS. The primary care organisation understands that there is currently a shortage of doctors and nurses in the UK, and has turned to innovative healthcare solutions as a result.

The group is currently in the process of recruiting paediatric specialists to oversee the care of its patients that are under 18 years of age. Its practices also have access to consultant geriatricians, a team of skilled nurses and other allied healthcare professionals that provide excellent standards of care.

Many of Willows Health’s surgeries are even open during weekends to provide specialist services such as NHS heart checks, sexual health screenings, women’s contraception services and general gynaecology services. The practices are additionally able to provide near-patient testing in certain circumstances and are working to provide patients who come in for services such as blood tests with immediate results on the same day.

The future of healthcare

During the pandemic, Willows Health believes it saw more patients at risk of covid than any other primary care healthcare provider in Leicestershire. It ran a hot hub service offering GP appointments to patients from other GP practices, keeping NHS staff safe at other healthcare providers.

At the peak of the pandemic, Willows Health trialled a Covid-antibody treatment. Local patients were able to get access to cutting-edge treatment before anyone else in the world.

The research evidence was among the first of its kind, and helped to result in the treatment being made available sooner across the globe. This success was noted as being important for the UK research community by the National Institute for Health Research. The primary care organisation strongly believes its quality of care is second to none, and its ongoing research helps to ensure its patients receive some of the highest standard of services available to them.

Professor Rishabh Prasad, chairman of Willows Health says: “We think that providing good care isn’t just for the present, but for years to come as well. It’s about looking at our future staff and patients and trying to help them as much as possible too.

“We do that by teaching and we believe that as a single primary care organisation, Willows Health looks after more trainees than anyone else, including students from the University of Leicester and other parts of the world. We’re also a research practice, as well as one of the largest recruiters in the East Midlands for the National Institute of Health research.”
